Two longtime Katy ISD educators, Steve and Elaine Robertson, will have their names proudly displayed at the district's newest elementary school. The District's 44th elementary school was named Steve and Elaine Robertson Elementary School at the board of trustees meeting Jan. 24.

Together, the Robertsons have worked in public education for 64 years. In 1985, Steve Robertson began his teaching career in Spring Branch ISD. His passion for school leadership led to positions at Conroe ISD and later KISD, where he served as a principal at elementary, junior high and high schools, and eventually as an assistant superintendent for secondary school leadership and support. In these roles, Steve Robertson led school improvement efforts, increased student performance, and provided support and mentorship to staff and campus leadership.

Elaine Robertson began her career in deaf education as an elementary school teacher with West 10 Cooperative in 1987. In 2002 she was named instructional officer for deaf education, vision and assistive technology. She worked with inclusion teams and site-based management teams and wrote grants to fund innovative instruction. Additionally, Elaine Robertson organized extracurricular programs to help bridge the academic and social gaps between the deaf and other students. She was instrumental in the establishment of KISD's Audiological Center. Both educators retired from KISD in 2020.

At the new subdivision of Cane Island, 7400 Innovation Drive will be home to Steve and Elaine Robertson Elementary School. This elementary school will provide enrollment relief to Bryant Elementary School.
