Katy Area EDC GA features presentations from Mayor of Fulshear, Katy ISD

For the first time in over a year, Katy Area Economic Development Council welcomed members and guests for an in-person general assembly meeting while adhering to COVID-19 safety guidelines. The meeting, which was hosted by Embassy Suites by Hilton Houston West-Katy, was headlined by presentations from Aaron Groff, Mayor of Fulshear, and a presentation by Katy ISD covering the May 1 bond referendum. For those members not able to attend, the meeting was streamed.

Groff, who was elected in 2018, leads the growing City of Fulshear which encompasses the southwestern portion of the Katy area. Recently named the fastest growing community in Texas, Fulshear continues to attract new businesses and families while maintaining a small town charm. With the growing population, infrastructure remains a focus through transportation projects such as Texas Heritage Parkway which will connect I-10 to FM 1093. The area is expected to continue its growth trend as its home to numerous master-planned communities and land available for future development. The Mayor also discussed the City’s Strategic Economic Development Plan, targeted industries and focus on innovation related economic development.

Katy ISD Superintendent Dr. Ken Gregorski and Chief Financial Officer Chris Smith shared information on the Katy ISD bond package which will go before voters on Saturday, May 1. As part of the package, there are four propositions. Approval of the propositions will result in no tax change. Each proposition is outlined below.

• Prop A: New Schools, Purchase of School Sites, Renovations and Expansion of Aging Campuses, Safety and Security, Buses, Building Component Replacements - $591,368,568
• Prop B: Classroom and Campus Technology – $59,755,242
• Prop C: Natatorium for High School #10 - $13,842,610
• Prop D: Campus and District Athletic Facilities/Stadium Repairs and Component Replacements - $11,260,000

Katy Area EDC has passed a resolution in support of each proposition.

Nash Industries was recognized as a new member at the Associate level. Numerous members were also recognized for membership renewal at the meeting. Board of Governors members Houston Community College, LJA Engineering, Subsea Solutions and Tristar Holdings were recognized along with Cimmaron MUD, Katy ISD, Katy Ranch Crossing, Kelsey-Seybold Clinic and MD Anderson which renewed at the Strategic Partner level.
