Longtime customers of Katy Mills probably remember the mall's funky interior carpets, bright-colored decorations and huge stars located directly outside of the entrance.
Since it first opened on Oct. 28, 1999, Katy Mills has become the No. 1 most visited location in the City of Katy, according to representatives with Simon Malls. The mall recently underwent a major interior transformation, modernizing the city's most popular shopping destination with a brighter, more upscale look.
Interior renovations (which representatives would not provide a price tag for) include an updated dining pavilion, new seating throughout the property, movie theater courtyard and an interactive Disney Jr. play area. Representatives called the remodel a "night and day difference" from the mall's humble beginnings.
The total transformation is still underway, with exterior renovations set to complete by the end of this year.
"Looking back on the two decades we've shared with the community, Simon knew embarking on a total property makeover would elevate the shopping experience for today’s modern consumers and their future needs," said James Ross, General Manager of Katy Mills. "We are excited to finalize the center’s fresh look with the exterior makeover just in time for the holidays."
The exterior renovations will boast a neutral color palette and include new concrete walkways and landscaping, dynamic light towers with illuminated mall entry identification numbers, LED lighting, new monument and directional signs and entrance design embellishments, such as woven metal mesh screens.
Representatives would not provide a cost for the exterior renovations. The mall will remain open throughout the construction.
