PopStroke, an entertainment venue with features that include a smaller-scale golf course designed by Tiger Woods, four bars—including one on the course—an extensive ice cream parlor, and restaurant and VIP space, opened in Katy on Dec. 16. It is the first iteration of the brand outside of Florida.

Situated among Andretti Indoor Karting, Cinemark movie theater and the Katy Grand retail center, PopStroke’s arrival in Katy was strategic as the area is within sight of major thoroughfares, such as I-10, the Grand Parkway and Hwy. 90, founder Greg Bartoli said.

“This is the intersection of all the crossroads that connect the Houston market,” Bartoli said. “Houston’s expanding dramatically, and from an economic standpoint, the Katy market is growing exponentially.”

Bartoli added the diverse market in Katy also makes it ideal for the first PopStroke outside of Florida.

“Our audience of guests are all ages—young families, young professionals, seniors, millennials, Gen Z and everything in between,” Bartoli said. “It is a perfect market with a nice climate 12 months out of the year.”

PopStroke’s two 18-hole putting courses are around 60,000-square-feet and include a bar on the green where putters can stop for a drink while playing. The building features an upstairs private event space and a downstairs full-service restaurant with two bars; a gaming area with cornhole, foosball and ping pong; a playground; and a 24-flavor ice cream shop.

Bartoli said PopStroke has attractions for every guest. This, he said, is one reason the brand has grown so rapidly from its first location in 2019 to four more venues in Florida, the most recent location in Katy, and two anticipated PopStroke locations in Glendale and Scottsdale, Arizona, in 2023.

“We provide an atmosphere for people of all ages, from 3-year-olds to 85-year-olds,” he said. “Everybody can putt, regardless of your age or your skill level or your background.”

PopStroke will utilize local brewers for its craft beers to provide “local flavor” that is authentic to the Katy venue, Bartoli said. Its restaurant also features a Lone Star Smashburger, in honor of the first Texas location.

But what remains the same about the brand, regardless of its location, is its commitment to providing a unique and diverse experience and a welcoming atmosphere to all guests, Bartoli said.

“We like pulling people together and getting them off their iPads for a little while, actually engaging with their friends and family for a few hours for some outdoor entertainment,” he said.
