Katy residents will begin to see changes in 2031 to FM 2855, bringing another way for residents to travel north- and southbound.

The overview

The Texas Department of Transportation’s $67 million project is set to address the reconstruction and widening of FM 2855 from two to four lanes with raised medians from FM 529 to I-10, TxDOT Public Information Officer Kristina Hadley said in an email.

A project funding source has not yet been determined, she said.

Katy City Council passed a resolution supporting the project at a June 10 City Council meeting.

“This is really going to help our north- and southbound traffic, and I am really excited this is on the horizon,” council member Janet Corte said.

Why it matters

The FM 2855 project aims to address growing mobility needs and improve safety for travelers, Hadley said.

“The project will improve the overall safety of the corridor with the added capacity and shared-use paths,” she said.

Looking ahead

The project has yet to begin design but is in the schematic design phase, Hadley said. Additionally, TxDOT officials plan to host a public involvement meeting in late 2024 or early 2025.

Construction for the project is estimated to begin in 2031, although TxDOT officials said they do not yet have a timeline to determine when the project will be completed.
