Katy Grand continues to develop in the northeastern corner of the Grand Parkway and I-10 in Katy, said Heather Nguyen, a partner with NewQuest Properties, the developer of the site. Nguyen said she expects the first building on the site to be completed in December.

The site broke ground in June on its first retail building, she said. A Cinemark theater and Whiskey Cake restaurant are already in operation as the anchor for the shopping center. Construction on the first of the separate retail buildings began earlier this year, Nguyen said.

“You know, we actually started breaking ground in June of this year, and we were kind of waiting for the power lines—that was the delay—to be extended to serve our property,” Nguyen said.

Leases have been signed with 85C Bakery, Kinokuniya Books, and Kura Revolving Sushi Bar, Nguyen said. Both Kunokuniya Books and Kura Revolving Sushi Bar are Japanese businesses, she said, and Kunokuniya Books has about 100 locations throughout Asia.

“Our goal is to go out and bring in first-to-market concepts and we are actually in the middle of negotiating several big tenant names that currently are not in Texas yet,” Nguyen said. “We have [also]signed a lease with Walk On’s, which will be going next to Cinemark and Whiskey Cake,” Nguyen said. “It will be a 10,000 [square foot]restaurant–one of the owners is Drew Brees.”

In addition to Cinemark, Whiskey Cake and a METRO parking garage are already in operation within the development. The new building is directly across Grand Circle Boulevard from the theater.

The tenants are expected to open in the first quarter of 2019, Nguyen said. This building is the first of potentially four coming to the project, which is between Grand Circle Boulevard and the I-10 intersection.

Phase 2 of the development will be located on the other side of Grand Circle Boulevard.
