Katy Area Economic Development Council is excited to announce it is now a Registered Apprenticeship Program sponsor. The newly created program is the first of its kind offered by an economic development council in the United States.

Developed in collaboration with the Texas Workforce Commission Office of Apprenticeship and the Texas Department of Labor, Katy Area EDC will serve as a program sponsor allowing interested organizations to more easily access apprenticeship programs to upskill/reskill new and current workers to positively impact individuals and employers. By acting as a sponsor, Katy Area EDC will be the program administrator making it easier for companies to utilize the programs by reducing red tape and streamlining the process.

Programs like apprenticeships are emerging as a new pragmatic and yet powerful alternative to traditional education models. Such programs offer individuals seeking a career change to learn valuable skills while earning a living at the same time. For employers, an equally unique opportunity is available to access a pipeline of eager talent.

“We are thrilled to be offering this program to our businesses community,” said Katy Area EDC President/CEO Angie Thomason. “As an organization, we are always seeking ways to positively impact Katy area businesses, and we know this program will do just that.”
