University of Houston-Victoria expands Nonprofit Center to Katy

More nonprofit resources will be available in Katy with the expansion of the Nonprofit Center, a University of Houston-Victoria program.
Through a new partnership with the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce announced in late-February, the Nonprofit Center will expand into the Katy area, providing workshops, boot camps and development programs. UHV has a Katy campus at 22400 Grand Circle Blvd., Katy.
The overview
The Nonprofit Center is a UHV College of Business program developed by professor Brooke Garcia to provide nonprofits with affordable resources to help grow their organization in communities that may not have access to an abundance of resources.
Since its inception in summer 2023, the center has worked to develop meaningful programs in the Victoria area. The program has provided workshops and boot camps on various topics, including grant writing and nonprofit boards, Garcia said.
What else?
The program will begin accepting applications in May for its first cohort at both the Katy and Victoria locations of the Nonprofit Leadership Academy, which provides community members an opportunity to earn a nonprofit leadership certificate. The leadership academy will begin in September and will hold full-day workshops over nine months, Garcia said.
“All nine months we’ll be going through leadership exercises and at the same time each month will focus on a different nonprofit topic area like maybe governance [and] fundraising policies,” she said.
Get involved
A free listening session will be held April 18 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce’s community room at 814 East Ave., Ste. G, Katy. The session aims to gather the needs of Katy nonprofits to ensure the center is catering to those needs.
“The listening session is going to be us explaining what it is that we want to do in the area but then getting feedback on whether or not that’s what they want from us,” Garcia said.
