Katy ISD receives A in Texas Education Agency’s 2018-19 accountability ratings

The Texas Education Agency released the 2018-19 accountability ratings for school districts across the state Aug. 15. Katy ISD received an A for the 2018-19 school year. It received a total of 92 out of 100 points.

“[KISD’s A rating] is a nice affirmation of the hard work that our teachers are putting in every day,” Superintendent Ken Gregorski said.

Out of the 65 KISD campuses that received ratings, 34 earned an A, 26 earned a B and five earned a C. For a more in-depth look at how each school in KISD performed, visit www.txschools.org.

Overall grades are calculated based on performance in three domains: Student Achievement, School Progress and Closing the Gaps, according to the TEA. Here is how the district ranked in each domain:

Student Achievement: B
This rating is based on how much students know and are able to do at the end of the school year. KISD earned 89 of 100 possible points.

KISD did not receive an A rating because it has at least one campus that received a D or an F in the Student Achievement domain, according to the TEA.

School Progress: A
This rating is based on how students perform over time, comparing their progress to similar schools. KISD earned 91 of 100 possible points.

Closing the Gaps: A
This rating is based on the performance of different populations of students. KISD earned 95 of 100 possible points.
