Katy Beer Garden will open this summer as the anchor of The Dryer, a 3-acre development surrounding the J.V. Cardiff & Sons Rice Dryer off Hwy. 90 in Katy.

On the menu

Upon opening, the beer garden will feature 100 beers on tap, a full cocktail bar, 20 taps for wines by the glass as well as wine bottles, founder and CEO Steven Salazar said.

The indoor and outdoor venue will offer rotating food trucks on-site as well as Bavarian pretzels paired with salted whipped butter; strawberry mustard; and coarse-ground, Creole-style mustard from its kitchen, Salazar said. He also plans to expand the food options as the business grows by adding items such as sandwiches and hot dogs.

Patrons will also be able to listen to performances on the outdoor stage, watch TV or get competitive at the two bocce ball courts and board game areas, according to a news release.

Additionally, the bar has a casual, rustic-style atmosphere to match the aesthetic of the rest of the future development, Salazar said.

Future phases of The Dryer will bring a museum inside the historic rice dryers; a gift shop; and a three-story building adjacent to the beer garden featuring a food hall, office space and a banquet hall.

Meet the owner

With 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry, Salazar emphasized the importance of building a welcoming atmosphere and providing great service and products.

“This is not about me. This place is about building an institution in Katy where everyone can enjoy,” he said. “I truly believe, in hospitality, you contribute to the culture of your city; you make this city a better place to live and to visit.”

Before Katy Beer Garden, Salazar was with The Kirby Group, which is known for projects such as Heights Biergarten, Wooster’s Garden in Midtown and Pitch 25 in East Downtown; the group will also open another Pitch 25 in Katy in 2025, Community Impact reported.

What’s next

The venue will likely host a soft opening in June, pending final inspection from the city of Katy, Salazar said. The beer garden is still accepting job applications, and individuals can submit resumes at careers@katybeergarden.us.
