A team of students from Cinco Ranch High School in Katy ISD earned multiple distinctions at this year's For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology UIL Robotics State Championship. Team 624 CRyptonite was one of 73 other teams, divided between two divisions, who participated in the FIRST Robotics Competition at the Alamodome in San Antonio June 15-17.

The Cinco Ranch team was named first runner-up in the state, and as a finalist in their Lone Star division, they went on to compete against winners from the Bluebonnet division and earn the distinction of overall state finalists.

“The students arrived energized and ready to compete. They were extremely proud to showcase the robot they designed and constructed this year,” Mike Outlaw, long-time team mentor, said in a district press release.

Also from KISD, the Seven Lakes High School RoboSpartans and Tompkins High School Steel Talons competed and made the playoffs at this year’s UIL tournament.
