The Katy Area Economic Development Council hosted its monthly General Assembly meeting on Tuesday, October 20. The virtual meeting brought together members, guests and elected officials to hear presentations from Kelsey-Seybold and Fort Bend County.

Kelsey-Seybold representatives Lisa Rowland and Shirley Israel shared information about the recently opened Kelsey-Seybold West Grand Parkway Clinic (2510 W. Grand Parkway). The clinic, which replaces a smaller facility in Cinco Ranch, opened in early summer and will provide enhanced healthcare services to the Katy area. Services offered at the cutting-edge facility range from cardiology and dermatology to pediatrics. The site also features ultrasound technology, a laboratory and pharmacy services with mobile CT/MRI services expected to be added in the future. In total, the facility employees 35 people.

Ed Sturdivant, Fort Bend County Auditor, provided an update on distribution of funding from the CARES Act in Fort Bend County, including the small business loan program. The small business loan program has thus far distributed roughly $22 million to eligible Fort Bend County businesses. Just shy of 2,000 businesses will receive funds as part of the program with a total of $46 million allocated for distribution. Sturdivant also noted the county childcare task force is in the process in coordinating childcare programs to assist vulnerable populations and essential workers in partnership with five YMCA locations in the county.

During the meeting, Katy Area EDC honored outgoing Board of Governors member Heath Rushing. Rushing has represented Memorial Hermann on the board for several years, and Katy Area EDC extends its gratitude for his commitment to the organization.

Lahor Behavioral Services was recognized as a new member at the Associate level. Several members were recognized for membership renewal including Newland Communities (Board of Governors), Katy ISD (Strategic Partner), Kelsey-Seybold (Strategic Partner), Clay Development and Construction (Associate), Dignity Memorial (Associate), The Tiger Group (Associate) and Watercrest at Katy (Associate).
