Living Here

First formally settled in the mid-1890s, Katy, Texas, developed around the original MKT Railroad train stop and tracks. The town’s name evolved from the colloquial reference to the railroad as the “K-T.” From our railroad days to our era as a rice-farming community to the present day, the Greater Katy Area has a work ethic, community spirit, and family feel that is second to none.

In recent decades, the Greater Katy Area has emerged as one of Houston’s prime suburban areas based on its excellent school district, award-winning residential neighborhoods, and access to major employers along the Energy Corridor. The Katy area is an ideal place to live and raise a family with outstanding amenities ranging from top shopping and dining destinations to prime recreation opportunities and healthcare choices.

People relocating to the Katy area are charmed by the casual small-town vibes, friendliness, and wide-open spaces. New residents quickly feel part of the community because of the pervasive spirit of volunteerism, the desirable jobs, and “Friday Night Lights” football. Whether you have been here for generations or just moved into town, the Katy area is sure to feel like home.
