The 10th Street bridge in Katy will be closed beginning mid-July for construction.

The details

Katy City Council approved a $2.88 million bid by John Reed and Company, LLC for the 10th Street Bridge Replacement Project at an April 22 meeting. The city received nine bids for the project, which will be funded by Texas General Land Office funds, according to agenda documents.

Construction for the project will include:

   -Bridge and retaining wall construction
   -Channel improvements
-Grading: reshaping the land at the construction site
-Storm sewer and water line installations

Council also approved a $99,250 construct for construction management and inspection services of the project with ARKK Engineers.

What residents need to know

City Engineer David Kasper said the bridge will close for construction from mid-July to early January 2025. Detours will be added to allow residents to travel around the closure, he said.

“We will have to route everyone around,” Kasper said. “Folks on the west side will have to go back around First Street and [Hwy.] 90 to get out.”

Next steps

Construction is expected to start July 1 and be completed no later than the middle of February 2025, Kasper said.
