Katy Hockley Road will undergo improvements between Morton Road and Clay Road.

The gist

On Dec. 11, Katy City Council voted unanimously to enter into an interlocal agreement with the Katy Development Authority to make improvements to Katy Hockley Road and purchase right of way for the construction.

Community Impact previously reported the project would increase the roadway from two lanes to four lanes between Morton and Clay roads, and involve drainage improvements. At the time of reporting, the project was expected to begin in April 2024.

The Katy Development Authority will fund the project, which could cost as much as $7 million, with Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County funds, according to agenda documents.

The city also purchased the right of way for the construction from two Katy residents for a cumulative purchase price of $51,210, according to agenda documents.

In their own words

Community Impact previously reported Katy is experiencing a steady population climb, which is a contributing factor to the traffic congestion along Katy Hockley Road.

“A lot of residents in that area just talk about the traffic,” City Council member Gina Hicks said. “It’s building as we’re growing up north, so we appreciate you seeing us.”
