Harris County Opens Kingsland Extension
Despite tougher standards, the Katy Independent School District improved its accountability rating from "acceptable" to "recognized" the second highest state rating.
The good news came Friday when the Texas Education Agency released its 2008 Academic Accountability ratings.
According to the TEA, more schools statewide are rated exemplary and recognized this year. Exemplary ratings went to 43 school districts and 996 schools this year compared to 27 districts and 643 schools in 2007, the release said.
Katy EDC Endorses Nov. 6 Ballot Proposals / Harris, Waller Counties Put Issues Before Voters
The Katy Area Economic Development Council is backing two measures on the Nov. 6 ballot that will affect some Katy-area residents.
The council passed resolutions during a Tuesday general assembly meeting supporting an $880 million Harris County infrastructure bond package and a measure to annex Waller County into the Bluebonnet Groundwater Conservation District.
Best Western to Go Near Mall / 3-Level Hotel to be Built in 2008
Residents can expect to see another hotel built near Katy Mills mall sometime next year.
Katy City Council on Monday night approved a developer's project to construct a three-level Best Western hotel at Katy Mills Boulevard and Market Place Drive.
Divine Hospitality LLC plans to build the 46,000-square-foot hotel, which will include 78 rooms
Texas Children's Hospital Shares Details of Katy Facility / West Campus Construction Set for Early 2008
Texas Children's Hospital West Campus intends to provide a growing community with pediatric medical care in the next few years as well as decades from now.
"We're planning the campus for the future," said Peter Dawson, the hospital's senior vice president of facilities.
The $220-million, 350,000-square-foot hospital will be built on 55 acres at Barker Cypress Road and the Katy Freeway and is expected to be completed by 2010. Construction will begin in early 2008, he said.
Bridgeland Development May Have 21,000 homes / Project Includes Town Center With Offices, Retail Space
A new master-planned community in the west Houston area called Bridgeland aims to provide resort-style living to its residents along with an extensive network of trails and lakes.
The 10,000-acre Bridgeland community, located in Cypress 2.5 miles south of U.S. 290 on Fry Road, will ultimately include more than 21,000 single-family homes with 65,000 residents, said Peter Houghton, Bridgeland's vice president for sales.
