Katy ISD is one of only 14 districts in Texas to receive this recognition for 2011.

Katy Grand Parkway stretch gets $350 million.  The Texas Transportation Commission on Thursday unanimously approved $350 million to build the Grand Parkway's Segment E in west Harris County.

BAE cuts another 600 jobs. The company announced last week that it would reduce its workforce by roughly 600 positions through June 2011.

The cuts are in line with the company’s announcement last year that it planned to cut 1,100 to 1,300 positions at the Sealy plant following news that the plant had lost the FMTV government contract it had held for more than 17 years.

Company officials noted the cuts are in an effort to control costs and ensure it remains competitive in the marketplace.
 

Seventy-seven of the nation's 100 biggest markets — with Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth leading the way — added jobs in March, according to a report issued Wednesday morning by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
