A task force of Katy and Sealy-area residents plan to petition Washington lawmakers to reconsider moving a $3 billion contract from Texas to Wisconsin.

The Katy Area Economic Development Council met Tuesday with officials from the city of Sealy to discuss ways of defending 3,000 jobs at the BAE Systems facility in Sealy.

Restaurant will bring 100 jobs to area

Red Robin Gourmet Burgers is scheduled to open Dec. 14 at 23318 Mercantile Parkway in Katy.
The 5,500-square-foot restaurant is expected to bring more than 100 jobs to the area.

SEALY, Texas - The City of Sealy and the Katy Area Economic Development Council have formed a task force to address to possible closure of a Sealy plant that employs almost 3,000 people for Austin, Harris and other southeast Texas counties.

The BAE Systems facility produces vehicles for the U.S. Army and contributes approximately $500 million to the Texas economy annually by way of employee salaries, contractor costs and vendor partnerships, according to a Katy Area Economic Development Council statement released on Tuesday.

Local Banks Unite to Support Business Growth and Economic Development

Katy, TX, October 21, 2009— The Katy Area Economic Development Council announced today the formation of the Katy Area Bank Alliance. Made up of local and national banks currently serving the Katy Area, the new alliance will explore pooling of loan funds to unlock additional capital in the Katy Area for new commercial projects and economic growth within the region. Alliance members will jointly review potential projects and where appropriate participate jointly in loans.
