Brookshire Rooms To Go opens

One of the nation’s premiere furniture retail chains has officially opened its doors along Interstate 10.  Jeffrey Seaman, the chief executive officer of Rooms To Go, made the trip to Brookshire to cut the grand opening’s red ribbon as Waller County Judge candidate and current Precinct 4 Commissioner Glenn Beckendorff and retiring Waller County Judge Owen Ralston stood side by side in the freezing cold.

“Rooms To Go really wants to be a part of this community,” Seaman said. “Buildings of this size don’t happen without a lot of public participation, and there were so many public officials who helped bring us here. Now we’re interested in bringing hundred of jobs to here – they really did a great thing for the people of this area.”  The CEO went on to explain that his company’s distribution center needs workers for it to run, and those jobs will begin filling in about a month.

“Rooms To Go feels lucky that we can offer this community hundreds of new jobs,” Seaman added. “If you know somebody or have a friend or family member who wants a good job, (let them know that) we’re hiring in about a month. We’re a good place to work, so please tell everybody. We need the people.”

Ralston, in his county judge capacity, welcomed the large group of people to Waller County and thanked them for braving the cold weather. “I know what its like to be sitting in that chair with that warm cup of coffee, it wasn’t easy (to come here).” Ralston said.

The county judge was influential in opening another road to access Rooms To Go store and distribution center. However, he wasn’t the only person playing a key role. “This project has been the vision for the (Katy Area) EDC for a long time,” said Lance LaCour of the Katy Area Economic Development Council. “It’s one of the reasons why our organization exists. I’d like to thank Judge Ralston and Glenn Beckendorff, who had the patience to work with us through this whole process. It was a great project and we appreciate the confidence Jeff has in us, Waller County and the Katy area.

The new store is the fifth chain store in the Houston area.
