Resolution in Support of Constitutional Amendment Proposition Four to Help the
University of Houston Become a Tier One University
WHEREAS, The University of Houston is seeking to become a “Tier One” University - a top designation for university systems in the U.S.; and
WHEREAS, Constitutional Amendment Proposition Four calls for establishing the National Research University Fund (NRUF) to (a) enable emerging research universities in Texas to achieve national prominence as major research universities; (b) transfer the balance of the Higher Education Fund to the NRUF; and (c) make existing funds available for seven state schools to become Tier One research universities, including the University of Houston; and
WHEREAS, Tier One status, for the University of Houston, means that Houston will have a public university with recognized education and research credentials; and
WHEREAS, supporting the University of Houston efforts to achieve Tier One status is part of the Katy Area EDC Work Plan for 2009.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Katy Area EDC Board of Governors hereby supports Constitutional Amendment Proposition 4 to help the University of Houston become a Tier One research university.
