Since opening in December, a high-tech security company has added employees to its corporate headquarters in the Katy area.
Iron Sky, which offers integrated safety and surveillance systems to public sector clients, opened in the Katy Commerce Center in the Westborough Business Park, said Lance LaCour, president of the Katy Area Economic Development Council.
“This is a technology start-up company that was hatched here in Katy and shows that the Katy area has the entrepreneurial environment, business climate and quality of life conducive to successfully launching technology companies,” LaCour said.
The firm’s president and chief executive officer, Keith Drummond, said the idea for the firm’s name came from its focus to provide powerful security tools to assist law enforcement in fighting crime.
He said he wanted a name with a tough personality like “iron” to express strength and the “sky” component comes from video surveillance the company provides from above through a wireless network.
Drummond touts the firm as “a different kind of physical security company.” He said using groundbreaking technology, the firm provides services to address security challenges in public safety, municipal and health-care facilities and public school districts among other industries.
LaCour, who called Iron Sky a “model start-up business,” said he worked with the firm to help find a facility that would meet its needs and accommodate growth. LaCour said the national firm, headquartered in Katy, looked at three other Katy-area sites before selecting the Katy Commerce Center at 1773 Westborough Drive, where the company is leasing about 2,500 square feet.
