The following building permits were issued in Katy from July 1-31:
July 2: Commercial, install double French doors inside building, 5618 11th St., TRS 7C and 7D, Katy Outlots, Harris County.
July 2: Residential, tear off and re-roof, 2637 Village Court, Village Green West, Block 7, Lot 1, Harris County.
For starting out as a prairie, the city of Katy has come a long way.
Katy was recently recognized as a Tree City USA through the national Arbor Day Foundation.
To qualify for this recognition, a city must have a tree board or department, a tree care ordinance, a community forestry program with an annual budget of at least $2 per capita, and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation. The city must also continue to meet this standards to retain the recognition annually.
FORT BEND COUNTY, TX - On Tuesday, Gene Hafele from the National Weather Service presented Fort Bend County Judge and the Office of Emergency Management with a StormReady Certificate in Commissioners Court. The StormReady program guides communities to take a new, proactive apprach to improving local hazardous weather operations by providing emergency managers with clear-cut guidelines on how to improve these operations. Fort Bend County is one of 30 counties in Texas that has received this designation, and the only county in this region.
The City of Katy and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will conduct a public
meeting regarding the proposed roadway improvements at IH-10 and Cane Island Parkway in Fort Bend and Waller Counties. The meeting will be held on August 16, 2012 at WoodCreek Junior High School, which is located at 1801 WoodCreek Bend Lane, Katy, Texas 77494. The meeting will be held in an open house format from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Houston is known for many things: Oil, NASA, urban sprawl and business-friendly policies. But the Texas city deserves to be known for something else: coolness.
