Katy Cares and Memorial Hermann Katy headline September Katy Area EDC GA

24 Sep 2018

The Katy Area Economic Development Council held its September General Assembly meeting on Tuesday, September 18 at Memorial Hermann Katy.  Katy area non-profit Katy Cares and the host, MH Katy, served as presenters for the meeting.  Longtime Katy Area EDC employee Frank Lombard was also recognized for his service following his recent retirement.

Representing Katy Cares, Harry Chapman, President of the Board, and Denise Mayfield, President and CEO, shared information about the non-profit organization which provides specialized therapeutic-housing services to mothers and their children affected by situational homelessness.  According to Chapman and Mayfield, homelessness is a problem facing hundreds of Katy ISD students and families.  The organization works to address the issue by providing resources and housing including the Rachel Ballard House, a recently remodeled home which has the ability to house four single mothers and their children as well as an onsite property manager.  Katy Cares plans to expand its housing capacity to 25 families by 2020.  To further its mission and meet its goals, the organization needs assistance.  You can help by volunteering or donating.  For more information, visit katycares.org.

The host site, MH Katy, discussed its industry-leading healthcare facility.  Heath Rushing, SVP and CEO of Memorial Hermann Katy and Cypress, gave those in attendance an overview of MH Katy from its opening as Katy Community Hospital in 1981 to the massive hospital expansion project which was completed in 2016.  MH Katy is one of only two hospitals in Texas and one of 49 hospitals across the country that has received a Grade A hospital safety grade since its inception.  The hospital also serves as the base for Life Flight and is the only trauma facility along the I-10 corridor, according to Rushing.  The hospital campus is experiencing further growth with the construction of Memorial Hermann Sports Park, a new sports medicine and human performance facility slated to open in 2019.  You can learn more about MH Katy at memorialhermann.org/locations/katy/.

Frank Lombard, longtime Katy Area EDC staff member, was recognized for his service to the organization and the Katy area community.  Lombard served in the roles of Vice President followed by Director of Membership, and was instrumental in making Katy Area EDC what it is today.  He retired last month after over 13 years of service.

“Frank has been an integral part of our organization,” said Katy Area EDC President/CEO Lance LaCour. “We would like to thank him for his contributions to our organization and the entire Katy area community.”

New Associate member Eventisa Group was introduced at the meeting.  Board of Governors members Consolidated Communications, NACE, Sueba USA and PBK were recognized for renewing membership.  Brown and Gay Engineers, EMA Solutions and Polvogt Insurance and Financial Services were recognized for renewal at the Associate level.  Katy Area EDC members Allegiance Bank, EMA Solutions and Rosenberger Construction were also acknowledged for their support of the Katy Area EDC through their Platinum Sponsor status as part of HQ Katy sponsorship program.

Prosperity Bank and Memorial Hermann Katy served as sponsors the event.
