  • Katy Area EDC announces Stan C. Stanley “Eagle” Leadership and Economic Development Award winners at February GA

    Katy Area Economic Development Council hosted its February General Assembly meeting on Tuesday, February 20 at Cane Island.  The monthly meeting, which brings together community leaders, guests and members, was headlined by the announcement of the Stan C. Stanley “Eagle” Leadership and Economic Development Award winners.

    In front of a packed room including members of the Stanley family, Katy Area EDC was honored to announce the winners of the second annual Stan C. Stanley “Eagle” Leadership and Economic Development Award as Bill Callegari (Owner TNG Utilities/Former State Representative) in the volunteer category and Hon. John Zerwas, M.D. (Texas State Representative) in the elected official category.  Callegari and Zerwas were selected from a pool of finalists which included Anne Hodge (Katy Area Chamber of Commerce), Rick Lawler (Katy Area EDC BOG member/Katy Area Districts Council leader) David Loesch (Katy Rotary/Wild West Brewfest) and Wayne K. Thompson (Fort Bend County Constable, Precinct 3).

    The winners and finalists were recognized at the meeting for their tremendous contributions to the Katy area and its success.  For a full profile of each nominee, you can view the presentation from the General Assembly meeting here with the profiles beginning on slide 33.

    The annual award was created to recognize a volunteer and elected official in the Katy area which have made contributions in leadership and economic development to the Katy area.  Selections were made by a committee of Katy area leaders.  All Katy area residents/public officials were eligible and selected based on criteria including but not limited to, years of service, leadership skills demonstrated, special achievements, and qualities Stan so greatly exhibited such as being faithful, conscientious, unselfish and committed to the Katy area community.

    “We were extremely honored to continue the legacy of our great friend Stan Stanley through the presentation of the awards,” said Stan Stanley Award Task Force Chair Paul Kurt. “I would like to personally thank the winners and finalists for their dedication and service to the Katy area community.”
    In addition to the announcement of the Stan Stanley Award winners, Harris County ESD #48 Public Information Officer Simon Vandyk shared information about the upcoming Katy Area Safety Fest.  Safety Fest will take place Saturday, April 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Typhoon Texas.  For further information on the event, please visit

    New members introduced at the meeting included University of Houston Victoria Katy, States Mortgage Company, Gardere Wynne Sewell, LLP. and Typhoon Texas at the Associate level.  Members recognized for renewing memberships were Board of Governors members University of Houston System, Rosenberger Construction and Fry Road MUD.  Insite Realty Partners and Katy Ranch Crossing were recognized at the Strategic Partner level.  Associate members recognized for renewal included Cinco Charities – Ballard House, Cornerstone MUD, Greater Fort Bend EDC, Icon Bank, Q10 KDH, Addicks Utility District, Cinco SW MUD, EHRA Engineering, Johnson Development, Members Choice Credit Union, Mickie C and Company Realty, Veronica Mullenix Real Estate Group, Watercrest at Katy and Wile Interests Inc.
