  • FEMA: UPCOMING DEADLINES FOR FILING for DISASTER ASSISTANCE

    October 16, 2017
    1.       The deadline to file for Disaster Assistance is Oct. 24. Unless this date is extended, FEMA will no longer be accepting applications for disaster assistance after this date. Individuals who are not signed up for Disaster Assistance will not be eligible for the various programs associated with Harvey disaster relief, including short- and long-term housing, low-interest loans, etc. Individuals can register on line at www.disasterassistance.gov.

    2.       As you may also be aware, those individuals who missed work (and those still out of work) due to Harvey are eligible for unemployment assistance through the State of Texas Disaster Unemployment Assistance program. The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) has extended the application deadline for unemployment assistance to Oct. 31. This extension allows survivors in all 39 counties declared for Hurricane Harvey to apply for disaster unemployment assistance if they have not yet done so. To apply, call 800-939-6631 (TTY 800-735-2989) or go to the Texas Workforce Commission’s website at http://www.twc.state.tx.us/jobseekers/disaster-unemployment-assistance.
